CALIFORNIA STATE PARK BEACHES RECEIVE A WAVE OF SUPPORT FROM STATER BROS. SUPERMARKETS AND COCA-COLA WITH RESTORATION AND SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS

Public-private partnership funds projects state parks couldn’t address without support from the private sector

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 31, 2010) – The quintessential Southern California beach experience will seem even more golden this spring and summer thanks to a program from Stater Bros. Supermarkets, the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southern California and California State Parks. Announced today, the Care for our Coast (www.careforourcoast.com) campaign will raise much-needed funds for beach clean-up, dune restoration, recycling and maintenance efforts along the California coastline.

The campaign will benefit Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange county beaches and the millions of Southern California residents who vacation or visit these beaches each and every year. The beaches involved include Huntington Beach, Carlsbad State Beach, Bolsa Chica State Beach, San Onofre State Beach, and Malibu Lagoon State Beach, which are some of the busiest beaches in the country and have needed services such as dune restoration for nearly a decade. The beach initiative also addresses visitor safety through an educational training component among seasonal lifeguards. The campaign challenges consumers to support their local beaches while shopping at Stater Bros. Supermarkets. Shoppers can make a one- or five-dollar tax-deductible donation to clean-up efforts at Stater Bros. checkout stands through April 25, 2010 or online at http://www.careforourcoast.com. The Web site and the Care for our Coast Facebook cause page (facebook/careforourcoast.com) provide educational facts about the program and offer the option to share the cause with friends, engage with fellow social media users and make an online donation to the California State Parks Foundation in support of the Care for our Coast campaign.

Additionally, the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southern California will donate one dollar towards cleanup efforts along the California coastline when consumers purchase ten dollars worth of Coca-Cola products, including branded soft drinks, vitaminwater™, FUZE® drinks, and DASANI® water. Stater Bros. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jack H. Brown says, “Helping the communities we are privileged to serve is a priority for the over 19,000 members of the Stater Bros. Supermarket Family. Stater Bros. is proud to support California State Parks and expand on the success of last year’s Reforest California program with the new Care for our Coast campaign to enhance the experience for millions who enjoy Southern California … from our mountains to our beaches.”

Ruth Coleman, Director of California State Parks, explains, “Given today’s budget situation, the efforts from the private sector to enhance visitor services and the natural assets of our state park beaches are greatly appreciated. We wouldn’t be able to implement these programs without the generous support of Stater Bros. and Coca-Cola.”

This is the second year that Coca-Cola and Stater Bros. initiated an environmental stewardship program to benefit California State Parks. Last year’s Reforest California campaign raised enough funds to plant one million trees in wildfire scarred areas at Southern California state parks.

"The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southern California is pleased to support our partner Stater Bros. in yet another project with California State Parks and in something that has such a long-lasting, positive impact on the local community,” said Terence Fitch, Vice President and General Manager of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southern California. “As the local Coca-Cola bottler, we strive to make a positive difference in the communities in which we do business. Sustainability programs like those at California state beaches make our communities better places to live.”

The customer donation portion of the Care for our Coast campaign in Stater Bros. Supermarkets will run from March 31 through April 25, 2010. The Coca-Cola donation portion will run from March 31 through May 11, 2010.

ATLANTA, April 7, 2009 - DASANI® announced today that it has teamed up with PSIMadeThis.com founder/designer Erica Domesek to create a limited-edition line of green-colored hats that benefit Ocean Conservancy and promote the importance of recycling.

The stylish green hats – created by Domesek from everyday household materials – will support the launch of the new 100-percent-recyclable PlantBottle™ plastic bottle packaging, made from a blend of up to 30 percent plant-based materials.

Domesek's hat design aims to highlight the green cap on the new recyclable PlantBottle while promoting do-it-yourself fashion as another easy way consumers can fit recycling into their everyday lives.

"DASANI® PlantBottle packaging is both made from renewable material and recyclable," said Abigail Greene, DASANI® senior brand manager at Coca-Cola North America. "Erica's designs will help us spread the word of our West Coast DASANI® PlantBottle roll out, and we have committed a substantial charitable donation to Ocean Conservancy to help support clean beaches, lakes and rivers."

The green hats were created using everyday household items including sweatpants, zippers from sweatshirts, buttons and thread. Consumers can receive a green hat through LA-based boutique Satine on www.SatineBoutique.com by entering their name and email address beginning April 7 through April 21. The first 10 consumers to enter daily after 9 a.m. PDT/12 p.m. EDT will receive a hat, with a limit of one green hat per entrant. The hat recipients will be notified via email on Earth Day, April 22. In honor of Earth Day and in conjunction with the green hat giveaways, DASANI® will make a donation to Ocean Conservancy for every hat given away. Satine will host an event at the boutique on April 21 to celebrate Earth Day and Ocean Conservancy. Erica Domesek will post insights on the green hat design program and everyday do-it-yourself tips at DASANI.com during Earth Month. She will also conduct pop-up green hat design sessions at key events -- helping others create their own versions of the hat using everyday materials.

"It's time to give back – give back to the community by cleaning up our coastlines and waterways, give feedback to industry and policy leaders encouraging even greater innovation -- and above all, give back to our oceans for all they give us", said Vikki Spruill, President and CEO of Ocean Conservancy. "Together, with DASANI® and Erica, Ocean Conservancy encourages everyone to do their part to clean up the environment and help us put an end to the problem of trash in our oceans, rivers and lakes."

"The do-it-yourself movement is all about recycling the resources you have to create something beautiful," said Domesek. "The DASANI® PlantBottle and the green hat are both examples of ways we can recycle in our everyday lives – recycled material that can result in fashionable products we feel good about."

"It's great that the green hats will be available on Earth Day.  I can't think of a more fitting day to celebrate being creative with our resources."

PlantBottle plastic bottles are made of up to 30% plant-based materials, which reduces dependence on a non-renewable resource -- petroleum. PlantBottle is 100 percent recyclable, and preliminary research indicates that from the growing of the plant materials through to the production of the resin, the carbon footprint for the PlantBottle packaging is smaller than for bottles made with traditional PET. The Coca-Cola Company is the first-to market with a recyclable PET plastic bottle made partially from plants.
